Evolve is a new theatre group formed by members of the National Youth Theatre. Their ethos is to produce works about topics which have personal importance to them and which they feel deserve to be highlighted.
The Edge is one such work. A one-act play debuting at Edinburgh, it deals with the difficult and emotional subject of teenage suicide.
Written by Scottish playwright Ron Nicol and performed in aid of NSPCC’s Childline service, the play centres on the roof of a city tower block.
A pair of teenagers (Emily-Grace Hyland and Joseph Bader) step towards the edge – and the tense and powerful drama unfolds.
Performed in a room on the 8th floor of the venue, this site-specific work not only aims to give an insight into the complexity of its subject matter, but also to give the audience a sense of The Edge’s bleak and forbidding setting.
